SoundView Addition
This craftsman addition to a century-old bungalow adds a garage and two-story 1,000 square foot accessory dwelling with a dramatic view to the sound. This project was designed for a panelized offsite build. After setting the panels, completing the MEP and interior drywall, the general contractor will hand off the project to the owners for interior finishes, fixtures, and cabinets.
This project features thick walls, triple pane windows with optimized solar heat gain for each orientation, distributed heat recovery ventilators with no ductwork, and heat pump heating & cooling. The roof mirrors the original 1905 bungalow, and the interior is detailed to break up the symmetry of the 8:12 sloped roofs.
This is a good example of how urban residents can add to their homes, to aid housing shortages and give themselves a long-term option for downsizing.
The design process involved multiple iterations of interior design concept sketches with fully detailed walk-through models to perfect the feel.
